One of my wildest
Where I live:
I have lived in Lancaster County, PA just outside the town of Quarryville since 1988.
Where I grew up:
I was born in Chester, PA and went through primary school in nearby southwest Philadelphia. My parents divorced when I was 11 and we moved to Chester County, PA with my mother and 4 siblings. I am the middle child and from about age 12, I have lived in various boarding situations away from home. I have been working full time and making my own decisions since about age 12 and never really knew what a real family was like.
I've had a lot of variety in my career. I have been a tow truck driver, a mechanic, the shop foreman in a steel fabrication business, and a church-planter. In 1993, I started working for a grocery busines that had begun several years earlier in a chicken house. I've worked with the Owner as the business grew to its present size of almost 350 employees at 4 locations in eastern Pennsylvania. I am currently the General Manager and am responsible for the daily operations and future development of our company. For a few years, I worked for the grocery business part time while I planted and pastored a local church.
Outside of work, I have been a Township Supervisor (where I served as chair), and helped to form a local Sewer Authority (where I also served as chair).
I met my wife, Mary Kita, in 1975 when we both worked for the same employer. We were married in May of 1980. We have two grown sons: Shawn and Josh.
How I became a Christian:
Mary and I moved to our current home in June of 1988. A couple came to our door a few months later and invited us to church. Keep in mind that neither Mary nor I have any church background. We attended church with the couple the following February. When we visited the church a second time, the couple approached us with the idea of starting a Bible study with us in our home. We agreed, and the Bible study started in April, 1989. Through that study, I asked Jesus to be my Savior in May of 1989, a month before our youngest son was born.
Two interesting facts:
The very first time I went to church in February, 1989, I invited and took a neighborhood family with us.
The very first Bible study I ever attended was in April of that year. I invited several neighbors to attend as well and they did.
